Kindred Spirit’s vision is to reach out to pregnant teens that need a safe place to live to during pregnancy, extend God’s unconditional love, and welcome them into a healing home.

At the center of Kindred Spirit, is a residential home for pregnant teens. Insufficient residential facilities for pregnant teens exist, locally and nationally. While a few homes provide services for pregnant teens in Atlanta, Christian homes are almost non-existent. The Christian community of Atlanta has the opportunity to ensure young women see the love of God lived out daily in a family style home. Kindred Spirit receives only private funding. Living in community, caring for our neighbors, demonstrates God’s gracious care for all humanity. Touching the lives of pregnant teens for the kingdom is heart of Kindred Spirit; prayer is the foundation.

When asked why you serve on a board for a nonprofit, people usually say something like, they:

believe in the organization’s mission

want to help the organization advance its mission

want to use their gifts and talents to make their community and the world a better place, and maybe even

see board service as an avenue to fulfill a Biblical mission or mandate.

These are all great motivators, but unfortunately many board members discover the reality of board service is somewhat different from they expected and in some cases even a big disappointment.

Does it have to be that way? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Join us on Saturday, January 28, 2012 for an exciting and interactive session exploring structure, strategies, and actions that Build BOLD Boards that Produce Extraordinary Results. This session is for board rookies, veterans, or wannabes.

The class will be from 9am to 3pm at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Cost is $50 per person, and this will include lunch. Please email Chris York at chris@leadatl.org if you’d like to reserve your spot.

Kevin Monroe is part of the LEAD Atlanta faculty and also heads X Factor Consulting, a local firm that equips organizations (and their boards) to produce extraordinary results. He provides training, consulting, and coaching to nonprofit boards both locally and nationally. Some of the local organizations he has served include the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children and Clifton Sanctuary Ministries (both LEAD graduates). Nationally he has worked with groups including the Meals on Wheels Association of America, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. In this session he’ll pull lessons from all of these experiences and maps out a better way for board service.

October 28: Prayer

Dan Hayes will present “How to More Effectively Build the Critical Core of Ministry: Your Prayer Base

In a time of seemingly scarce resources available to move our ministries forward, we have been given access to the unlimited and infinite resources of God – which can be our key to gaining everything else we need: people, time, creativity, finances, and ministry fruitfulness.

Come join Dan Hayes, Executive Director and Founder of Atlanta Community Ministries (ACM), as he lays out ways to create or improve the Prayer Team Component of your ministry. From ACM’s beginning as an idea 16 years ago to its 26 ministries filling 4500 volunteer opportunities annually today, ACM has made its Prayer Team a central core; and, as Dan Says, “That has made all the difference!”

Come find out how more focused prayer can accelerate your ministry in all ways on Friday, October 28 at 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM in The Lodge at Peachtree, 3417 Roswell Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305 starting at 9 am and ending at 10:30 am.

This is a free event, please join us.

Kevin Monroe of XFactor gave a great presentation yesterday on Sustainability for programs and for organizations. LEAD hosted the event.

In the morning, it was emphasized that we need to look at people as investors, not donors. This is a change in the giving community that makes for changes in how we do business.

It is important that you track your outcomes, not just your activities; that you know the return on investment from your programs; and that your results provide systemic change.

In the afternoon the focus was on the ten principles of sustainability… more can be found on this at the website… www.xfactorllc.com

Thanks again Kevin for an interesting and educational day.
