Nonprofit in Training: AMIS (Atlanta Ministry with International Students)

AMIS (Atlanta Ministry with International Students) is a ministry of friendship and hospitality to International University Students. In 40 years, they have established strong relationships with all of the major Universities in the Atlanta area. This allows them to connect international students with Americans through three major programs. The Amigo Program: Amigo volunteers are local Atlanta families and individuals who extend friendship to an international student on a one-to-one basis. This is a commitment to friendship, not to house the student. Our organization introduces you to these young people. Thanksgiving Program: A family shares this unique American holiday by inviting an international student to your home for this Thanksgiving meal. Christmas International Home Stay: Christmas is a time for sharing and Christmas International House (CIH) provides an opportunity to do just that. Families and individuals are encouraged to share their homes with an international student for a one or two-week period. Activities are provided for the student on most days so you may go about your normal activities. In 2017 Irene Wong joined this established ministry as Executive Director, and began the LEAD ten month program in July. “LEAD has been wonderful. As a new Executive Director it’s guided me in how to do every aspect of my job. I’ve learned fundraising, board development, how to use my time, and what we need to do to be a success. It has been helpful in so many ways, the training is so practical,” said Irene. For more information on AMIS, please click here
