Nonprofit in Training: L'Arche Atlanta

L'Arche AtlantaL’Arche Atlanta is a faith community of people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (for example someone with Down’s syndrome) living together in a house in Decatur. Today they have six in the house; 3 residents with and 3 without disabilities. They look to have no more than eight in a house. They hope to add more houses in the coming years. The goal of the ministry is to show the community how the marginalized can reflect the face of God. They are a part of L’Arche International, founded in France by Jean Vanier, and made famous by the writings of Henri Nouwen. Tim Moore, the Executive Director found the LEAD fundraising classes among the most helpful: “They taught me the scope of work, the need to cast a wide net. The one page ministry summary has become an essential tool, not only in face to face meetings but as a source document for foundation proposals.” Tim continued: “The recent “speed fundraising” practice sessions were so helpful in refining my ‘ask,’ giving me clarity and courage to finish the year end well.” The coaching experience was particularly beneficial to Tim: “My coach was able to help me understand the financial tools I needed to have in place to support our goals of adding more houses in Atlanta. He did a great job of sharing his expertise in a way that will help my ministry.” For more information click http://www.larcheatlanta.org/ to go to the website.
